The Wines

70-75% Grenache (1967, 1977, 1997), 20-25% Syrah (1993), 0-5% Mourvèdre from stony clay-limestone soils on Les Garrigues at Sarrians, destemmed, cool pre-fermentation maceration, 25-32 day vinification of varieties together, cap punching, pumping overs, aged concrete vat 8 months (reduced from 12-15 months from 2014), fined, filtered, organic wine, 7,500-12,000 b

quite a dark red; the nose is smoky, centres on withdrawn red fruits, red berries, vegetal airs. The palate doesn’t offer a fixed middle, is a coming and going affair, with chiselling in the rocky tannins. It’s not settled, requires more time, the worry being the rather arid finish. From 2022 – wait and see. Decant it. 14.5°. 10,000 b. 70% Gren, 25% Syr, 5% Mourvèdre. €12. 2031-33 Feb 2020

steady quite dark red robe. The nose has a note of sweet raspberry, pastille appeal, a backdrop of baking mixed with some iodine. The palate is spiced, attacks on fleshy content, develops a stretch of rugged tannins that need refining. It has a cooked plum Grenache fruit. There is a tenacious angle to this, and the finish is rocky, demanding; time will take the measure of. So: leave until 2020 spring. 14.5°. 10,500 b. 70% Gren, 25% Syr, 5% Mourv. 2030-31 Feb 2018

mainly dark red robe. There is a cool, iodine like tint to the bouquet which hums with some plum fruit and soft spicing. It’s a good, serene start. The palate is expressive via spicing and bustling content with slightly rugged tannins that weave hither and thither. This is gutsy, genuine wine with local punch outside its rather tasty black berry fruit. It finishes with a clear clack and some saltiness. Marks for character here. 14.5°. 8,000 b. Gren, Syr. €10 at the cellars. From spring 2018. 2024-25 May 2017

rather dark red. The bouquet is lightly sweet, with a cassis jam nature, a little dust of dry outcrops. The palate doesn’t fire freely, is grainy and its fruit is rather restricted, though there is freshness present on its rocky close. This can gradually move closer together. Time is on its side. 14°. €10. From 2018. 2023-24  Dec 2015

2013 ()

purple-garnet colour. The nose is spicy, with a note of herbs. The palate delivers licorice and spice, but the tannins are dry and edgy on the finish. €10. From 2016. To 2020 JL  Dec 2014

ruby red robe. There are damp notes, evolution, on the nose, cooked plum. It’s rather a dogged bouquet, low-key. There are spiced, more damp notes on the palate, the fruit on the recede early on. There are clove, floral moments. It’s on the cusp vis-à-vis its life. It could rebound with more air. 14.5°. To 2020 Feb 2018

plum red robe. There are husky, vegetal notes on the nose, with eau de vie, plum brandy airs. The palate presents a hearty plum-fruited, spiced, southern fullness. It’s very much a sunny lands wine, carries the coating of a ripe vintage, ends on strawberry liqueur, with lip smacking notes. There is possible Brett here. “It’s a year of attractive concentration”, Coralie Onde. 15°. To 2023 Feb 2018
