2018

dark robe; the bouquet is a busty affair, stewed plums, raspberry liqueur at its centre, a sweetness of approach from the hot summer, all rather obvious. The palate is coated, holds soaked red fruits with a fleshy make-up, a lip smack delivery on the second half. There are channels of spicing on the singularly robust finish. It’s a grounded, charged Gigondas, suited to autumn-winter drinking and commensurate dishes such as game stews. 14.5°. €19.6 at cellars. From 2022, decant it. 2037-39 Feb 2020

2017 ()

(concrete vat) full, deep dark red. There’s a welcoming air of blueberry fruit on the nose, which is well defined, juvenile, doesn’t carry many extras. The palate dinks softly, with attractive black fruit running with ease and openness. The texture is smooth all through. This is “kind” Gigondas, a touch tame, but easy to drink early on. From spring 2019. 2030-32 Oct 2018

2016

(bottling this month, Oct 2017) dark red colour. The nose has a mild air of blackberry fruit, varnish-pine, buffed black leather. The palate holds wavy black-fruited content with sound freedom and expression. There is a toffee note on the finish. It’s still in the cellar, rather than showing the vineyard. It needs to fuse and arrange its rather tough, for now, finish. 14.5°. 40,000 b. From late 2019. 2027-28 Oct 2017
